An age-smart resume for professionals over 50

Lead with recent results, summarise early roles and drop graduation years. Your experience is an asset when it's focused.

Experienced professionals bring judgement, networks and calm under pressure. But a five-page resume that starts in 1990 invites quick assumptions. An age-smart resume focuses attention on what matters now.

Focus on 15 years

Show the last 10–15 years in detail. Summarise earlier roles in one line: "Earlier career: operations roles at Straits Freight and Harbourline Logistics."

Remove signals that date you

  • Graduation years (keep the degree).
  • Old-fashioned headings such as "Objective" and "References available upon request".
  • Outdated technology lists; add current tools you really use.

Lead with results

An executive summary of three lines with your two biggest results: "Cut regional fulfilment costs by S$2.8M a year while lifting on-time delivery to 99.2%."
