Switching careers in Singapore: make ten years of experience count
How mid-career professionals can translate past experience into the language of a new field.

Singapore actively supports mid-career switching, with funded courses and conversion programmes. The hardest part for many switchers isn't the course. It's the resume, because recruiters scan for the new field's keywords and don't see them.
Use a hybrid format
Start with a short summary that names your target role, then a skills section matched to the new field, then your experience. Recruiters see relevance in the first five seconds.
Translate, don't exaggerate
"Investigated reconciliation exceptions" becomes "Analysed transaction data to identify and resolve data-quality issues". Same work, new vocabulary. Never claim a title or years of experience you don't have; interviews will find it.
Prove it with projects
Two or three portfolio projects using real tools (SQL, Python, Tableau) are worth more than a list of courses. Link them.
Salary expectations
Switchers sometimes accept a step back in pay at first. Use official occupation wage data to set a realistic range, and focus your conversations on progression.
Chapterwise's Skills translator suggests new-field wording for each of your bullets, and you approve every change.
